what are turkish towels/hamam towels/pestemals?

Turkish Towels, also known as Hamam Towels (pestemal in Turkish) are flat woven towels that:

• are light weight, compact and fast drying
• absorb water as quickly as standard towels
• are natural and eco friendly as they take up less space in your washing machine
• easily fit in your beach bag or travel bag
• look great worn ‘sarong style’ poolside
• are perfect for using at the spa or gym
• make a unique and beautiful gift

The history of hamams and Turkish towels is a rich one. Hamams were influenced by the Roman ‘thermae’ and Byzantine baths and reached their peak during the reign of the Ottoman Empire. Our Turkish towels are made in the same villages where they have been made for centuries.

The ritual at the hamam involves bathers relaxing in a very warm room before splashing themselves with cool water. After performing a full body wash and receiving a massage, bathers finally retire to the cooling-room for a period of relaxation. The Turkish towel was (and still is) the traditional attire worn during this ritual.

Today Turkish towels are widely used on the Mediterranean beaches of Turkey and also poolside, in bathrooms and at spas.

Hamamist Turkish towels are hand loomed in the same villages that they have been made in for centuries. This means that every item is slightly different and unique and that small imperfections are part of each towels natural beauty!

Every effort is made to ensure images of products are a clear and accurate representation. As these are handmade items - each one is unique and will vary slightly. Please also note that different computer screens can display colours differently.

duties and local taxes

Purchasers are responsible for any duties and/or taxes payable at the point of entry into the destination country.

damage and loss in transit

As we use tracked/registered mail it is only in the rarest of circumstances that a parcel goes missing. However if your order is lost or damaged in transit please contact us and we will send replacement goods as soon as possible.

If you do receive damaged goods, please keep any related documents and ensure that, on receiving the parcel, you sign for it as a damaged package or similar if possible. We may also request you to email photos of the damage as this will assist us in any insurance claims.

Please do NOT return damaged goods, unless and until requested to do so as this may incur additional costs unnecessarily.

privacy

We do not supply your mailing information to third parties. We do use your email to inform you about our products that may be of interest. These emails can be unsubscribed from at any time. Information supplied to us may be stored on a computer system for our convenience, but will not be supplied to any outside agency. We use PayPal to process our payments, an easy and secure transaction service that is completely independent of our organisation and your credit card details are not given to us at any time.
